Long standing Post Office employee Sharon Maddrell was given a warm hearted farewell on Friday (25th April) at her retirement presentation, where Mike Kelly Chief Executive of the Post Office, presented her with a framed certificate featuring stamps from the year that she joined, and retired from the business.
Sharon began her career as a Postal Officer in Douglas during 1974, she then went on to work in a variety of roles from Counters and Finance to Customer Services and Cashier, before then going on to become Counter Services Manager of Ramsey in 1991, and celebrated her 40 year service anniversary with the Post Office in April.
Sharon is renowned for always taking great pride in the work she carries out and the support of her staff. She is described as friendly and bubbly, and is always willing to help her colleagues and customers of the branch.
Sharon also plays an active role in the community, and is one of the main organisers of the breast cancer fashion show, 'Fashion for Life' and does a lot of work each year for 'Isle of Man Breast Care' in supporting cancer patients and their families.
Mike Kelly, Chief Executive of the Isle of Man Post Office said: "We are sorry to see Sharon leave it's been a pleasure working with her, and her retirement after many years of service is something to be celebrated. We wish her a happy and healthy retirement and every good fortune for the future."
Sharon said: "I started in the Philatelic Bureau in 1974 then moved to the Counter, Finance, Customer Services, Cashier and finally to manage Ramsey Post Office in 1991. I loved being in Ramsey and the last 23 years have flown by thanks to the best staff anyone could have. Ramsey, all be it the second largest town on the Island, still has that village feel when it comes to customers. The staff members know practically every one by name and really look after them. We have a few pensioners who cannot always get down for their pensions due to ill health, so the girls call and collect their vouchers to cash and take it home to them, and if we notice someone hasn't been in for a few weeks, someone rings to check that they are OK. We get so many Christmas cards from grateful customers, I was proud as punch to head up such a Team. We even have an Office cat! Kyle comes in every day for most of the day, much to the amusement of the customers who photograph him. He is also on Facebook!"
She added: "I'd like to thank everyone in the Post Office for their support and friendship, and for making the last 40 years such a joy."
