Isle of Man Post Office (IOMPO) strongly refutes claims from the Communication Workers Union (CWU) that it has rejected the opportunity to have 'meaningful' talks.
IOMPO has had both written and verbal dialogue with the CWU yesterday (Sunday) and agreed to a daylong of intense negotiation talks to take place this Wednesday (12th December). Indeed, ongoing discussions on job evaluation with the CWU, which is one aspect of the proposals, have taken place today (Monday) and continue to do so in order to progress the new pay structure. IOMPO recognises all the trade unions it works closely with.
Julie Edge MHK, Chairman of IOMPO said: "We wish to avoid this week's planned strike action and the disruption this will have on our valued customers, especially at our busiest time of the year. We are optimistic that by the end of the day on Wednesday, we will have a way forward. We are disappointed that the CWU has claimed we have rejected the offer of talks when they are already ongoing. It is completely untrue."
She continued: "The Executive Team have been negotiating with the CWU for the past 18 months and it has always been the intention to bring key aspects of the five year strategy, which requires Tynwald approval, to the Honourable Court in due course. Tomorrow (Tuesday), Tynwald Members will fully consider the IOMPO's report on its strategic recommendations which the Board firmly believe are being made in order to protect the future of the Island's Post Office, in the best interests of our staff, customers and other key stakeholders. The decisions made tomorrow will impact everyone at IOMPO, not just postal workers."
