Isle of Man Post Office Returns to Normal Operations while Staff & Customers’ Safety Remain Priority

Isle of Man Post Office (IOMPO) welcomes the end of the Covid19 lockdown period and the relaxation of restrictions in place across the Island, including the removal of social distancing, from today (1st February). However, it wishes to assure that the safety of its customers and people will remain its top priority.

As the second lockdown period commenced in early January, IOMPO implemented a number of preventative measures and changes to its operation, to ensure it followed Public Health and Government guidelines on preventing the spread of infection. As the business moves towards a return to normal, its priority is to ensure its people feel safe and comfortable in the working environment and therefore suitable PPE will continue to be provided and regular and thorough handwashing is strongly encouraged. IOMPO would like to assure its customers that should there be a further wave of Covid19 on the Island, the business remains well equipped to revert back to its precautionary measures.

Simon Kneen, Chief Executive of Isle of Man Post Office, says the display of teamwork across the business during lockdown has been extraordinary:

“We are very fortunate at IOMPO to have a dedicated, loyal and hardworking team who continue to go above and beyond especially in testing circumstances such as lockdown. Lockdown came into effect very close after a very busy Christmas period for our people, and we are proud to have been able to continue to deliver letters five days a week and parcels six days during the last three weeks. In helping us to do this we are grateful to the support we received from casual staff and the Government workers redeployed  from their normal roles – all of whom enabled us to ensure all duties were covered, while some of our colleagues with underlying health conditions were required to shield.”

Mr Kneen added: “During lockdown we have seen further positive and collaborative working with the respective unions that represent our people, and we are grateful for their support in our precautionary measures and amends to operations to ensure customers remained connected by post.”

While services all return to normal from today (Monday), IOMPO would like to advise that while the UK remains in lockdown it is likely to see some continued disruption, including some erratic arrivals of mail from Royal Mail, as they encounter the effects of Covid19 and the staff shortages it can create.

Meanwhile the retail network of post offices across the Island, each independently run, will be continuing to operate a mixed range of opening times over the course of the next two weeks. For the latest information please visit www.iompost.com/services-finder
