Isle of Man Post Office is one of the largest employers on the Island, with a staff count of over 350 people. We are dedicated to the personal and professional development of our employees and we believe that supporting our staff through training and development will benefit them and add value to our company.
With over £17m being put back into the local economy not only through salaries but also through spending with local suppliers, tax, VAT and capital investment, we recognise the social value we provide across the Island from the economic benefits as an employer. With job applications coming in from across the world, we are proud to enhance the profile of the Isle of Man as a place that is great to work for and open for business and inward investment.
New technologies and changing customer needs have resulted in a rapid change in the postal industry. We therefore need dynamic and adaptable staff that are ready to meet the challenges that come with change. Our full-service provider Integrated Mailing Solutions (IMS), our Commercial Department and related support departments contribute to that change by constantly raising awareness of the services we have to offer other than being a delivery service provider.
Did you know that there are 94 varied job roles within Isle of Man Post Office? Only few of these roles are actually grades of post people. All of these job roles may require entry-level qualifications all the way up to Chief Executive Level and all of these roles within our organisation require specific skill sets.
Isle of Man Post Office is very proud to invest in the development of all of our staff. Making sure that our employees are best equipped to undertake their roles as well as keeping up to date with best practices and standards is an integral part of our philosophy. Working closely with providers such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the ACCA or the Institute of Directors we are able to offer our employees not only traditional qualifications but we also provide opportunities for our staff to gain newly released qualifications. This allows the Isle of Man Post Office and our staff to keep up to date with change, innovation and new ideology.
We value our staff and to help ensure we can fulfil their ongoing needs we undertake an annual appraisal process and regular staff surveys. These contribute to our low employee turnover and many long serving staff.
However, we do not just focus on our own employees. Assisting the local high schools by providing opportunities for work experience from year ten onwards or supporting the IOM Government STEP programme, which provides an opportunity for University students to undertake an 8-week work based project during summer, are equally important to us. After all it is important to help younger generations on the Island and provide them with business skills that can help them progress in future life.
Helen Bedford, Human Resources Manager of the Isle of Man Post Office said, "Our staff are our most valued asset. We believe that offering our employees a variety of benefits, supporting them in career development and a great work life balance ensures our employees feel appreciated and contributes to many long serving members of staff."
