Isle of Man Post Office is pleased to announce the appointment of Geoff Rickard to the position of General Manager of Mails. Geoff joins the Post Office as part of the planned succession to Malcolm Macpherson and brings with him a wealth of experience gained over the course of a career in postal services which spans as far back as 1981.
Geoff began his career at a Post Office counter in Acocks Green, Birmingham where he followed in the footsteps of many family members. Over the next 10 years however, his work took a change of direction within the Post Office environment and he began gaining experience within operational productivity schemes, management training, mails operations, Total Quality and customer services for both Parcelforce and Royal Mail Letters based mainly in the Midlands.
By 1991 Geoff became a Delivery Area Manager covering the Northampton area, then Wolverhampton followed by Coventry and finally Birmingham by 1995.
Then in 2000, Geoff was recruited by Royal Mail's overseas postal consultancy service, working in Kuwait, Qatar, Thailand and France on a range of different projects. He returned to the UK in 2003 to take up the post of International Network Manager, responsible for the conveyance and delivery of mail to Africa, Asia and Australasia, based at Royal Mail's Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre (HWDC). Over the next 11 years, in addition to being part of a Royal Mail team exploring new opportunities in China, he also became responsible for managing operational relationships with postal administrations in Western Europe, supporting the British Forces Postal Service and British Overseas Territories and ensuring the Royal Household could receive and send mail whilst on overseas visits.
Geoff joined the Isle of Man Post Office in March 2014 to take responsibility for all mails related activities.
Geoff's parents were keen motorcycling fans and according to family legend, Geoff was named after Geoff Duke and Geoff Ward. Geoff admits to supporting Aston Villa and also likes rugby and motor racing. He enjoys playing golf and is keen on photography, reading, walking and music. Fittingly, he has collected stamps and first day covers over a long period, including many Isle of Man issues.
Geoff Rickard, General Manager of Mails for Isle of Man Post Office said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to join the Mails division at Isle of Man Post Office and relish the challenges that lie ahead. Isle of Man Post Office has a strong reputation in the UK and elsewhere and this will be my opportunity to help build on the firm foundations already in place. With the rapid growth in electronic communications and mobile technology, mails management has to evolve to meet changing customer requirements and expectations, and I look forward to working alongside the great people I have already met in Isle of Man Post Office to make sure we offer our customers whatever mails and delivery related services they need in the future."
Peter Cropper, Operations Director of Isle of Man Post Office said: "The appointment of Geoff offers the business a fresh approach and a depth of knowledge which includes significant international experience. I would like to offer a warm welcome to Geoff and the whole team wishes him every success in his new role."
