IOMPO is consulting with key stakeholders regarding the proposed service changes in Ballasalla following the incumbent Sub Postmasters decision to terminate on 9th March 2020.
Referencing the decline in counter service use that is forecast to continue, the IOMPO Board are recommending the current counter service is superceded with a more sustainable and affordable self-service kiosk for bill payment and postal services, as detailed in the letter to stakeholders (see below). The IOMPO Board will consider the feedback and any new information before making the final decision at the end of January.
IOMPO is consulting with its commercial clients, the National Federation of Sub Postmasters and the following local stakeholder representatives, inviting written responses by 24th January 2020;
Update: 26/02/2020 - The business case and impact assessment (available as downloads at the bottom of the page) presented to the Board for consideration on 30th January 2020. The actual change agreed by the Board at this meeting, was an enhanced service based upon option one from the business case, which includes an innovative face-to-face information and advice service, together with a parcel collection facility.
Update: 07/02/2020 - IOMPO is preparing the Expression of Interest as a priority. Subject to willing participants coming forward, the Board aim to avoid a break between the outgoing Sub Postmaster’s leaving date, now confirmed as 9th April 2020, and the services being implemented.
Update: 05/02/2020
On 30th January 2020, the Board of Isle of Man Post Office discussed the future of postal services in Ballasalla, following notice by the sub postmaster to terminate his contract.
The Board diligently considered all the feedback it received from key stakeholders including political representatives for the area, the local authority, businesses, residents and users of the post office alike, and the four Board Members in attendance unanimously agreed, to seek expressions of interest for a service partner to provide assisted postal services in the Ballasalla community. Therefore the Board will seek to appoint a partner to provide an enhanced offering to what it originally proposed, by way of a more personal service trial, with assistance provided to customers to operate the touch screen services, encompassing standard postal services and important utility bill and rental payments, and to provide information and advice for completing paper based services, such as driving licence renewal forms. The Board also agreed to expand the partner service to include parcel collections, thus ensuring customers can both post and collect postal items from the same location.
IOMPO is now working this new service provision into an Expression of Interest as a priority, with the intention to appoint the successful new service partner before the current sub postmaster completes his contractual notice period, ensuring continuity of service for the village.
