Isle of Man Post Office (IOMPO) advises that the dedicated aircraft used to convey mail between the UK and the Isle of Man will cease on 16th October 2023.
The change will not affect the vast majority of Island customers. A guaranteed next-day service for priority mail to the UK will be maintained for residential and business use, managed through a scheduled airline. All other mail items to/from the UK will be transported by ferry and road. Also, a new ‘Tracked 48’ product to the UK will be introduced for commercial customers offering tracking to the point of delivery and insurance coverage of up to £150. These changes respond to extensive consumer research conducted by IOMPO to ensure it continues to provide the products and services its valued customers require in the most cost effective and environmentally sustainable way.
In preparation for the changes, IOMPO will shortly publish a new interim price guide, effective from 16th October, which details fees for the new products as well as a reduction in some tariffs such as small parcels over 3kg, Special Delivery two-day service over 2kg and the surcharge for Saturday guaranteed Special Delivery being removed. A more detailed tariff review will follow within IOMPO’s annual price review ahead of January 2024.
Simon Kneen, Chief Executive of IOMPO said: “We have taken great care to ensure that the changes as a result of the removal of Royal Mail’s dedicated mail plane will see minimal disruption for our customers. We are grateful that our relationship with Royal Mail has enabled us to maintain a guaranteed next-day service and that we can introduce their ‘Tracked 48’ product and in doing so, we can manage our operational costs as well as improving our carbon footprint in the region of saving 600 tonnes of CO2 per year. Our Commercial Team are liaising with our commercial customers to help them understand the changes and the products which best suit their needs.”
The interim price guide will be available to view on www.iompost.com from 2nd October where further details on products and services will be featured.
