In celebration of the Isle of Man hosting the International Olympiad
In celebration of the Isle of Man hosting the International Olympiad in Linguistics, a global academic competition for secondary school students, Isle of Man Stamps & Coins are delighted to produce this sheetlet in celebration of the Olympiad taking place at King Williams College on the Isle of Man, 24th – 30th July 2022.
The International Linguistics Olympiad will see over fifty visiting teams of competitors coming from thirty-eight countries. Each will be offered a very warm welcome to our shores where our young people will share with their contemporaries not only the Manx language but also a snapshot of the place of our birth, heritage and culture; Ellan Vannin.
The theme of the competition was 'language'. The artwork featured on the reverse of this sheetlet includes seven winning designs by young people from around the world who entered a competition sponsored by the Isle of Man Post Office earlier this year.
The winning entries are from:
Aada "Aada Azul" Kärkkäinen (Finland) [Bird];
Corinne P. Soucy (Canada) [IOM Flag];
Julia Jolliffe (United Kingdom) [Alien];
Dana Ospanova (Kazakhstan) [Ribbons]; Aleksandra Bujny (Poland) [Mouth];
Elizabeth Beklemisheva (Russia) [Face];
Ayushi Agrawal (Canada) [Balloons].
The sheet includes 20 self-adhesive postage paid UK labels.
