Hop Tu Naa & Yn Melliah Workshops supported by IOM Post Office Stamp Collection “Manx Folk Traditions”

Jo Callister (DESC Advisory Teacher for the Manx Curriculum) and Chloe Woolley (Manx Music Development Officer for Culture Vannin) have been visiting Isle of Man schools this term delivering workshops about the Mheillea or Melliah harvest traditions and Hop tu naa which is celebrated on 31st October. Students at Kewaigue, Ashley Hill, St Johns, Marown and Henry Bloom Noble schools have enjoyed learning some traditional songs, dances and the folklore associated with these calendar customs. Our eye-catching "Manx Folk Tradition" stamps have been incorporated into the school visits, helping to encourage children to celebrate and keep Manx traditions alive. More information on the folk traditions celebrated throughout the Manx year can be found at: www.culturevannin.im
